The first dementia villages in the United States will open in Sheboygan in July and Fitchburg in  the fall of 2027, offering dementia patients an alternative to traditional nursing homes and memory care facilities.

The first two U.S. villages are Dementia Innovations’ Livasu in Sheboygan and Agrace’s Ellen and Peter Johnson Dementia Village in Fitchburg. Both villages were inspired by BeAdvice’s Hogeweyk in the Netherlands, the world’s first dementia village, and both facilities worked closely with BeAdvice for several years to build villages in the U.S. Continue Reading…

Agrace, a nonprofit community hospice serving La Crosse County and the Coulee Region, is seeking local volunteers. Volunteers are needed to make companionship visits to Agrace Hospice Care patients. No health care experience is needed. Schedules are flexible, and free online training is provided.

Construction has officially started on Agrace’s Ellen & Peter Johnson Dementia Village, a revolutionary dementia care facility in Madison.

The village helps residents with cognitive decline maintain their independence. There will be eight homes with eight people each, meant to simulate a family environment.

Construction is officially underway on a first-of-its-kind dementia village in Fitchburg.

Community leaders broke ground on the $40 million project on Tuesday. The development, led by Agrace, is designed to rethink memory care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Modeled after dementia villages in the Netherlands, the community will look and feel more like a neighborhood than a traditional care facility. Plans include small homes, walking paths and a cafe.
