Visiting Agrace:

Visitors must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms and sign in at the reception desk before they can visit Agrace’s hospice inpatient units and other areas of our buildings.
Masks are recommended while at Agrace and will be available at the reception desk. Visitors are not required to wear masks in patient rooms unless it’s the patient’s request or signage on the patient room door indicates otherwise.

Clinical Experiences

Learn how Agrace supports the education of clinicians by offering student experiences such as rotations, preceptorships, internships and shadows.

Agrace's Commitment to Learning

Agrace fosters a culture of learning. We know the hands-on training we provide to clinicians and students today will shape the future of hospice and palliative care. Every year, more than 200 students spend 10,000+ hours learning alongside experienced Agrace clinicians.

Students who come to Agrace Hospice Care for a clinical experience will be immersed in observing and providing the high-quality end-of-life care we offer our patients and their families. They can build their skills by caring for patients with a variety of medical conditions and levels of acuity.

Depending on their role, students can expect a wide range of essential clinical learning opportunities, including:

Epic documentation;
collaboration with an interdisciplinary team;
hands-on learning in our Skills Lab for safe patient handling (using equipment and mannequins to practice giving bed baths, completing blood draws, measuring vital signs, etc.)
and much more!

Student Interest Form

Anyone interested in clinical experiences with Agrace must be enrolled in an educational program with an accredited university. We do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible.

Clinical Experiences

Choosing a clinical experience at Agrace helps students build their clinical skills and relationships, gain more varied experience than most hospital departments offer and experience being a part of an interdisciplinary team.

Here are the types of experiences available to clinical students at Agrace:

Clinical Rotations

Nursing and certified nursing assistant (CNA) students will work in small, friendly care groups at our inpatient units in Madison or Janesville, Wisconsin. With both residential and GIP level of care, Agrace cares for patients with varying acuity, so we can personalize students’ experiences based on the skills they most need to learn or practice, including working with patients who have urgent or complex symptoms.

Preceptorships/Internships

Student nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, social workers and counselors will gain experience in the day-to-day care of patients and their families, allowing them to integrate their existing knowledge with real clinical practice!

Students will typically work with 1 or 2 supervising staff preceptors to meet their individual educational needs.

Shadows

Student nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, social workers and counselors can shadow an experienced Agrace clinician.

Here is what students can expect from a shadow experience:

Opportunity to witness the hospice experience first-hand
Students observe only, and do not assist in the care of patients
One-on-one interaction with clinical staff

Information for Schools & Students

Please request a student rotation, internship or preceptorship at least two months in advance. After receiving your request, Agrace will review it and contact you if more information is needed. In most cases, you will be notified of a final decision within six weeks of the start date of the requested experience.

Requests for shadows should be submitted as soon as possible. We do our best to accommodate these requests depending on staff availability.
