Create a personal legacy by earmarking funds for Agrace in your will or estate plan.
A planned gift is a way to meet your personal financial goals while you provide Agrace with vital, long-term support.
Tailoring a gift to fit your financial, estate and tax plans has a number of benefits. You can gain tax rewards, maintain your financial security and make a truly meaningful contribution to Agrace’s future. Your gift creates a personal legacy by helping to ensure that Agrace’s high-quality, compassionate care will be available in our communities for generations to come.
As you consider the planned giving options described below, think about how much you would like to give, but also what you want to accomplish with your gift. The answers may help you select the giving option best suited to your wishes.
Agrace recommends that you consult your legal counsel and/or financial advisors before making a gift. Their assistance can help you make the largest possible gift to Agrace at the least possible net expense. They will consider your personal financial circumstances to help you receive maximum benefits from existing tax laws.

Cash, securities, real estate and tangible personal property, such as works of art, may be willed to Agrace through your estate. There are several ways to gift bequests, and there is specific language that needs to accompany these different gifts in your will. You can download our suggested bequest language for details, or contact Lisa Dahlgren at (608) 314-2927 with your questions.
A charitable gift annuity (CGA) provides a fixed income—for life—for you and a loved one first, and a donation for your favorite charity later.
If you are considering a gift of appreciated property, such as stocks or bonds, to Agrace, note these financial benefits:

With a gift of $100,000 or more, an Endowment Fund or Term Gift Fund can be established in your name (or in the name of your loved one, or anonymously) to provide support for Agrace. Your gift can be restricted for a specific focus fund or established for the general support and needs of Agrace. Endowment funds make it possible for Agrace to offer comprehensive end-of-life care and supportive care now and in the future.
Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
IRA holders can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) of up to $100,000 after age 70½ to reduce their taxable income. A QCD counts toward your required minimum distribution,* if applicable.
Beginning in 2023, people who are age 70½ and older may elect, as part of their QCD limit, a one-time gift of up to $50,000, adjusted annually for inflation, to a charitable remainder unitrust, a charitable remainder annuity trust or a charitable gift annuity.
Key details of a QCD:
Name Agrace as your beneficiary:
Most people who inherit IRAs from someone other than their spouse must take the money and pay taxes on it within 10 years, rather than stretching it over their expected lifetime. To reduce this tax burden, IRA holders may want to consider tax-advantaged charitable giving. If you believe your heirs would struggle with the tax burden of the 10-year IRA withdrawal schedule, consider donating your IRA funds to a favorite charity, such as Agrace, and leaving different assets to your loved ones.
Be sure to talk to your tax and financial advisors about IRA rules and potential advantages of naming Agrace as an IRA beneficiary as you plan to provide for your loved ones. If you have questions about giving to Agrace, please contact Lisa Dahlgren at (608) 314-2927.
* IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) ages, effective January 1, 2023:
|Birth Year||Age at Which RMDs Begin|
|1950 or earlier||72
(70 ½ for those who turned 70 ½ prior to 2020)
|1951 – 1959||73|
|1960 or later||75|
A gift of life insurance is a relatively low-cost way to make sizeable donation to the Agrace HospiceCare Foundation. No other kind of gift can magnify your original contribution as much as a gift of life insurance. The annual premiums are deductible, if you itemize. Here are some options if you are considering a gift from your life insurance:
Significant tax advantages usually accrue to donors making outright gifts of appreciated real estate. Benefits to the donor include a full fair-market value charitable deduction, up to 30 percent of adjusted gross income, with a five-year carry-over provision and no capital gains tax on the property appreciation. Gifts of real estate will be credited at their appraised value at the time the gift is made. Agrace reserves the right to either accept or reject any offer of real estate.
Life estate gifts are gifts of a residence, farm or vacation home. The donor will receive a charitable tax contribution at the time of the gift, and the donor retains a life estate in the property (continues to use the property for life). After the lifetime of the donor, Agrace accepts ownership of the property.
