Dementia Support from Agrace

When a person you love has trouble with memory and thinking, it’s hard to know how to help them. There are many types of dementia (including the well-known Alzheimer’s disease), and each person may experience the illness differently.

There is no clear path of how to care for a person whose brain function is declining, but Agrace offers several dementia-support programs that may be helpful over time.

Dementia Care Consultations

When a person begins to show signs of dementia, so many tough questions arise, such as these:

  • What care will be needed as the illness goes on?
  • How will we find or provide this care?
  • How will we make future care decisions?
  • How will we afford the care that’s needed?

If you’re family member or caregiver of a person who has dementia and are unsure about next steps, start with an Agrace Dementia Care Consultation. Our dementia support specialist can meet with you to offer information and guidance, including which other Agrace services and other community resources may be most helpful.

  • Care Consultations can be held in person in the Madison area, or by phone or video call (using a tablet or computer with a web camera).
  • They are one-hour discussions about your unique situation and needs.
  • The cost is $20 for a one-hour meeting or call.

Hospice Care for Comfort in the Last Months of Life

Nurse Ella leans over patient, Georgia's bed. Georgia has a big smile. Dementia often advances slowly, so it can be hard to predict when a person is ready for hospice (end-of-life) care. To be eligible to enroll, two doctors must agree on that a patient is likely in the last six months of life.

Most people with dementia have hospice care at home or in a long-term care facility, but another option is living at the Agrace Hospice Memory Care Suites. This is a secure section of our Madison campus that is designed for hospice patients with memory care needs.
