Hospice support can start sooner and last longer than most people realize. It’s care that grows with time. Read on to learn more about what Agrace can do for you now and in the future.

Is it time you had more help?

Having a serious illness takes a toll, both on the person who is ill and their loved ones. It can be hard to find—and costly to hire—the right in-home help.

Your family caregivers may find their role to be physically and emotionally taxing, even if they are deeply committed to caring for you. Often, family caregivers don’t have the medical training or time to provide such important, compassionate care.

If you are wishing you had more help with your own life-limiting illness or as a caregiver of a person who is declining, call Agrace to learn whether hospice support is available now. These visits can bring an extra layer of specialized care and support that takes pressure off you and your family.

Why call sooner?

When we say it’s “never too soon” to call us, it’s because Agrace offers both palliative care and hospice care. If you call us before you are medically eligible for hospice care, you can consider scheduling an Agrace Palliative Care consultation.

Palliative Care provides specialized virtual visits for adults that can help you feel better and cope better at any point during a serious, life-altering illness. Unlike hospice care, these visits are available while you continue treatment for your illness.

Hospice care (for those covered by Medicare or Medicaid, and most other private insurers) has more defined eligibility rules. It is for people of any age who:

  • have a life-limiting illness or condition,
  • have a prognosis of about six months or less, and
  • are seeking comfort, not a cure.

To get the most benefit from hospice care, start as soon as you are eligible and feel ready. This team-based service supports you physically, emotionally and spiritually throughout the course of your illness—and cares for your family for an extra year afterward, while they are grieving.

Calling Agrace now helps you know if it’s time to start care—or what may need to change before you are medically eligible for hospice care.

“It was not easy to admit that we were getting to the end of their lives, but when we brought Agrace in, it was very obvious what an amazing process this is.”

— Wayne, patient's son

“We got my mom involved six months ahead. Hospice was another set of eyes, another support network—not only for her, but for the family.”

— Wayne, patient’s son

How does hospice support grow with time?

When you enroll in hospice care, time is the most vital element of your care. When that time is only hours or days, hospice care will focus on making you as comfortable as possible, learning what to expect and making final arrangements.

If there is more time—weeks or even months—hospice support becomes more beneficial. The extra time can be used for:

  • Building a routine and greater trust with your care team
  • Discussing what a “good death” means to you, and fulfilling end-of-life goals
  • Getting help with essential needs that you can’t afford
  • Receiving emotional and spiritual support, including for your loved ones
  • Finding community resources you may need, like meal delivery or financial advice
  • Teaching your family members how to care for you between hospice visits
  • Arranging volunteer companionship and assistance from Agrace
  • And whatever else is most important to you!

Why is hospice extra care—but not extra cost?

A hospice care team comes to you where you live, which can relieve you of the stress of traveling to medical appointments. You’ll have more time to do what’s important to you. The extra layer care you get during Agrace’s visits can take pressure off your family caregivers, especially if they don’t have any medical training or caregiving experience.

Hospice care is not free, but most insurance providers have a generous, comprehensive hospice benefit. That means there is usually very little—or nothing—for you or your family to pay “out of pocket” for hospice care.

Hospice care may cost you far less than the treatments and appointments you had prior to enrolling. Plus, Agrace provides the medications, medical supplies and durable medical equipment you need (related to your illness), which can save you a substantial amount of money each month.

Agrace’s “Care for All” Fund can step in to offer discounted or free care when patients have no other means to pay.

If you are medically eligible and ready for hospice care, Agrace can bring relief in many ways. Please contact us to learn when hospice care may be right for you.
