Agrace Hospice has been providing care for southern Wisconsin families since 1978. With a ribbon cutting Tuesday morning, they have now opened a new office in La Crosse. Agrace medical director Hilary Bingol says expanding services across the badger state has been years in the making.
“We want to be able to serve all the communities because there is definitely a need. Hospice care is underutilized across the United States, but especially in Wisconsin,” says Bingol.
Bingol adds the importance for all families to have access to hospice care for their loved ones.
“It is a really challenging time for people, not only for the person who is receiving the diagnosis, but for their caregivers and their family members. Being able to provide people the support they need to walk along that journey and to have the best quality of care so they can live their best quality of life for as long as possible is really our goal,” says Bingol.
Jeff Lachman with Marine Credit Union in La Crosse says a nonprofit like this coming to the area is a big deal.
“It puts a big burden and stress on families when they can’t care for their loved ones in the right way. They can come alongside an organization like this to get assistance, extra care, and just to get overall support from this type of organization,” says Lachman.
“The community is extremely welcoming. We were able to find a location rather quickly to find an office. We’ve been able to welcome some incredible staff to join our team,” says Bingol.
Agrace’s closest locations prior to the La Crosse office’s opening were in Dodgeville and Baraboo.
