Nelsons’ Gift Will Match Donations to Agrace Up to $100,000

Through the generosity of one local couple, every dollar donated to Agrace until the end of 2024 will go further toward supporting compassionate end-of-life care. Thanks to Todd and Shari Nelson, owners of Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, all donations made to Agrace, a Wisconsin-based nonprofit provider of hospice care and related health services, will be matched up to $100,000 through December 31.

“In 2018, we attended a ‘get-to-know-Agrace’ meeting,” said Todd and Shari Nelson in a joint statement. “We were so impressed by the dedication and compassion of the staff we met. Little did we know that just a few months later, we would need Agrace Hospice Care’s services.

“The care Agrace provided to three of our parents over the past six years was just incredible. To honor the impact this amazing organization has had on our family, we are donating $100,000 to Agrace and offering it as a community match. We hope our gift lights the way for others to contribute whatever they can to support Agrace’s mission.”

Each day Agrace serves more than 1,800 patients and clients across southern Wisconsin who are aging, seriously ill, dying or grieving. Community donations make it possible for Agrace offer free or discounted hospice care or supportive (palliative) care to local patients who lack adequate insurance coverage. This includes people who are too young to qualify for Medicare and those whose lengthy or expensive medical treatment has left them without a cure—and unable to pay for end-of-life care.

“We are deeply grateful for the ongoing generosity and support from Todd and Shari Nelson,” said Agrace’s chief development officer, Beth Larson. “Their commitment to inspire others is why we are recognizing them as our 2024 Agrace Community Luminaries—donors who light the path to help ensure all families who need Agrace services can receive the same exceptional care that the Nelsons’ had—for years to come.”
