Organizational Opportunities

Volunteers serve in a variety of ways, but do not work directly with patients. Their training consists of a 2-hour orientation (which can be completed online or in-person) and then role specific “on-the-job” training.


Doc Rock Café: Volunteers make a variety of beverages, utilize a computerized cash register for meal sales, and provide customer service to those purchasing items form our Café. This role includes interaction with many staff, visitors, families and patients. Madison.

Flower: Volunteers arrange donated flowers for our patients and visitors to enjoy throughout our Inpatient Unit and facility. Madison and Janesville.

Garden: Volunteers work to maintain the beauty of our gardens for the enjoyment of our patients, families, staff and visitors between the months of April and November. We also have several weekend work parties throughout the summer that are open to one-time individuals and groups. Madison and Janesville.

Grief Group Co-Facilitators: Volunteers recieve special training to co-facilitate grief support groups along side one of Agrace’s counselors.

Hospitality: Volunteers greet and direct visitors to the building and provide support to reception staff. Hospitality volunteers must have exceptional customer service skills. Madison.

Kitchen: Volunteers support our kitchen staff by making soups, baking cookies, prepping food for patient meals and events. These volunteers work directly with kitchen staff. Madison and Janesville.

Office Assistant: Volunteers provide administrative support to a variety of departments at Agrace. Projects can include filing, data entry, deliver mail, and more! Madison.

Special Events: Volunteers provide assistance on a one-time basis with a variety of events of events including: representing Agrace at health fairs or expos, serving at kitchen events, day-of help at Agrace Foundation events, etc. Madison, Janesville, and Baraboo.

Thrift Stores: Volunteers utilize the cash register, accept donations, stock the sales floors and provide customer service. Money raised at the Thrift Stores goes to support services for our patients and families. Madison East, Madison West, and Janesville. TB tests are not required for Thrift Volunteers.

Patient Visit Opportunities

Volunteers work directly with patients. They attend a two-hour orientation session (which can be completed online or in-person) and then training specific to the role that they choose.


Home Care Visits: Volunteers visit with patients living in their homes or long-term care facilities in the community. Duties may include providing respite for care givers, companionship for patient,s or transporting patients to appointments. Visits can range from 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on patient needs and can be anywhere in our service area volunteers are willing to travel.

Inpatient Visits: Volunteers visit with patients at either our Madison or Janesville Inpatient Unit. These volunteers can provide feeding assistance, companionship, assistance to our staff, or be a comforting presence for our patients.

Visiting Pet: A visit from a therapy dog always brightens our patients’ days. Volunteers with registered therapy dogs make visits to our Madison or Janesville Inpatient Units or in long-term care facilities in the community.

Complementary Services: Volunteers can share their expertise with various skills to enhance patients’ comfort and well being. Licensed massage therapists, Reiki masters, barbers and cosmetologists make a big difference in the lives of patients.

 

Advanced Patient Care Volunteer Opportunities

These volunteer opportunities require a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service with Agrace patients and the completion of a specialized application.


Life Review Interview: Specially trained volunteers interview a patient. The interview is then transcribed and transformed into a scrapbook, narrative or other momento for the family to treasure.

Vigil: Specially trained volunteers sit with patients who are actively dying for up to four hour shifts, usually between the hours of 8pm and 8am. This can be at our Madison or Janesville Inpatient Unit or with our patients who live in long-term care facilities.
