Comfort Shawls

If you can knit or crochet a simple pattern, you can bring warmth and comfort to Agrace patients receiving end-of-life care.

Agrace welcomes hand-made shawls and lap blankets that have been knit or crocheted and donated by members of the community. Our Comfort Shawl Circle then dedicates each one and distributes them to patients. These soft, colorful shawls give comfort to our patients year-round, and we’ve heard that they comfort patients’ families as a memorial of their loved one’s care from Agrace.

If you are donating:

• For health safety reasons, all donated shawls and lap blankets must arrive in plastic bags.
• Because we provide shawls and lap blankets to patients throughout the year, we prefer that they are not made with holiday themes or colors.

We are often asked about our preferred shawl and lap blanket sizes:

• Our suggested patterns (see link below) should result in rectangular shawls between 26 x 60 inches and 30 x 64 inches, depending on the size of needles you use.
• Lap blankets are often square and range from 36 x 36 inches to 45 x 45 inches. If made as a rectangle, 36 x 42 inches is a common size used to cover people in wheelchairs from chest to feet.
