Local people who are in the final months of life have a new choice for high-quality, home hospice care. Agrace, the largest Wisconsin-based nonprofit hospice, has expanded its service area to include Prairie du Chien.
Agrace was founded by volunteers in Madison and has offered end-of-life care and related services to people in southern Wisconsin for more than 40 years. Over the past seven years Agrace has steadily expanded into Wisconsin counties where there had previously been limited access to local, in-home end-of-life care. The agency has offices in Platteville and Baraboo, and hospice inpatient units in Madison and Janesville.
Adding to its service area is a decision supported by Agrace staff like Tisha Earle, a registered nurse from Prairie du Chien. “My roots are deep in this community, and I am honored to be a part of the team that is bringing compassionate end-of-life care to those who need us here,” Earle said. “Agrace offers quality care and 24/7 support—not just for the patient, but for their family, too. I’m grateful we can bring this service to the people of Prairie du Chien.”
Agrace, a Wisconsin pioneer in home hospice care, serves hospice patients of all ages, including children and those who cannot pay for the care they need.
“The latest available Medicare data show that people who choose hospice care for their final months of life spend less time in the emergency room and more time focusing on quality of life,” said Lynne Sexten, Agrace president and CEO. “For people who are no longer pursuing a cure, hospice helps them stay at home and focus on comfort and dignity. They can spend this time with family and friends and avoid trips to the hospital.”
Anyone can refer a patient to Agrace. Patients are enrolled seven days a week, including holidays. For questions about Agrace’s hospice services or to request an informational visit, call (608) 348-4797 or visit agrace.org/refer.
