The Gregory C. Van Wie Charitable Foundation, Inc. has given $15,000 to Agrace HospiceCare’s “Care for All” charitable care program.
Agrace, Wisconsin’s largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization, uses funds donated to Care for All to help its patients pay for hospice or palliative care when they demonstrate needing financial assistance.
Agrace Development Manager Tracy Buglass said this Van Wie Foundation gift will help ensure that all people facing serious or life-limiting illnesses throughout Sauk, Columbia and Juneau counties can receive compassionate palliative or end-of-life care from Agrace, even if they cannot pay.
“In 2019, Agrace has applied more than $50,000 from the Care for All program to help patients in this local community get the care they deserve,” said Buglass. “This wouldn’t be possible without donations from groups like the Van Wie Foundation.”
Agrace provides hospice services to people with a life expectancy of six months or less and a primary goal of comfort, rather than cure. While Medicare, Medicaid and private health insurance cover the cost of basic hospice services for most Agrace patients, an increasing number of people still find themselves without hospice coverage when they need it.
“The Van Wie Foundation and Agrace share a common belief that everyone deserves the chance to die with dignity, regardless of their circumstances or their ability to pay for the care they need,” added Buglass. “We are grateful to be included in the great legacy this family has created.”
