Mary Golembeck of Belvidere, Ill., has joined Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care as nurse practitioner for its new palliative care service, PalliaHealth by Agrace. Golembeck will visit patients across the stateline area who are struggling with poorly controlled symptoms and stress related to having a serious illness.
PalliaHealth by Agrace provides specialized, supportive care designed to improve comfort and reduce stress for people who have serious illnesses. Unlike hospice care, the palliative care services provided by PalliaHealth are appropriate at any point during a serious illness, including while a person continues to receive treatment that’s intended to cure their illness.
Golembeck will conduct detailed, in-home palliative care consultations, which include a lengthy discussion about the patient’s symptoms, treatments and goals. After the visit, Golembeck will recommend to the patient and their doctor ways to improve the patient’s comfort and reduce stress, such as trying different medicines or treatments, or making lifestyle changes. Seeing the patient in their home allows Golembeck to better evaluate what changes or additional community resources could make a difference in the patient’s quality of life.
Golembeck comes to Agrace with many years of experience working as a nurse in Peoria, Rockford and Lombard, Ill. A nursing graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, she is licensed as an advance practice registered nurse in both Illinois and Wisconsin.
