Local families who have experienced the death of a loved one can find help coping with their grief at a free, half-day camp hosted by Agrace HospiceCare in October.
Children five years or older and their parent or guardian can join grief specialists from Agrace on October 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Baraboo Civic Center, 124 2nd Street in Baraboo.
Suzie Clam of Rock Springs and her nine-year-old grandson Charlie attended Agrace’s camp the first time it was held in August.
“The thoughtful, hands-on craft activities allowed us to express our feelings in a creative and tangible way,” recalls Suzie Clam. “The time we were given to share our stories and connect with other families was so beneficial when, so often, you feel alone with your pain.”
There is no cost to attend, but attendees must pre-register by calling (608) 327-7118 or visiting agrace.org/supportgroup. The session is open to any grieving child; they do not need to live near Baraboo or be related to a hospice patient.
Every year, nearly 2,300 people, including more than 400 children, receive grief support from Agrace to help them cope with the death of a loved one. Agrace hosts a variety of community grief support programs all year-round across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. These programs do not receive any type of reimbursement from insurance; the cost for programming comes from community donations to the Agrace Foundation.
