Beth Anderson has a talent for making people feel beautiful.
She’s spent years giving back to Agrace Hospice patients who need it most.
A salon was donated to Agrace by Cost Cutters 12 years ago and for the past six years Beth has been volunteering there every week.
She helps patients like Diane McCarty, who has been struggling with breast cancer, cervical cancer and lung cancer.
“I come down here and it’s just like a miracle when I leave here,” says Diane.
To Beth, it’s a small thing she can do to make them feel good.
“She is so dedicated to her volunteering here,” says inpatient volunteer coordinator Barb Graham. “We literally could not hold the salon if it weren’t for Beth at this point because she is here every week. She will come through blizzards and it doesn’t matter what the weather is, it doesn’t matter if she has a broken ankle, she will come and she’s going to serve these patients.”
Every Thursday, Beth spends hours washing, cutting, styling and listening.
“I think it helps them to cope with what they’re going through and it also makes them feel like they’re valued,” says Barb.
For Diane, “It means the world and she’s such a special person.”
“It’s something you can’t replicate in any way shape or form,” says Beth. “I get just as much out of it as they do. It’s humbling, it makes you appreciate your health, it makes you appreciate your children’s health. There’s nothing else like it.”
“We are just so fortunate to have someone of her caliber and just her integrity,” says Barb. “She’s just a very caring, compassionate and just a real person. I think patients really just feel that from her.”
“She gives her life to all the people here and can’t take tips and goes into rooms for people who can’t get out,” says Diane. “She walks on water basically, as far as I’m concerned.”
Cost Cutters donates all of the supplies for the salon.
