As reported by Ben Bromley at the Baraboo News Republic
Hospice advocates want to fill a gap in the health care system by filling a circus tent.
Agrace Hospice will hold its second annual Night at the Circus fundraiser Aug. 4 at Circus World. Proceeds will go to the nonprofit’s charity care fund.
Agrace development manager Tracy Buglass said the Care for All fund covered $750,000 in end-of-life services last year in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. This included help for 20 Baraboo patients.
“We’ve never turned away anyone,” Buglass said.
Hospice services present a fundraising challenge because end-of-life care is a topic many prefer to avoid. That’s why Agrace ties its educational fundraiser to a fun night under the big top. Last year’s event raised $40,000 toward Agrace’s mission of bringing compassionate care into the homes of people living in and around Sauk County.
The event features a private circus performance, a “tiger adventure,” and a museum tour; plus cocktails, appetizers and a live charity auction. Tickets cost $100 per person and are available through July 27.
“You make it a social event,” Buglass said. “They get something out of it.”
