Local Families Can Attend Free Grief Support Camp from Agrace

Local families who have experienced the death of a loved one can find help coping with their grief at a free, half-day camp hosted by Agrace HospiceCare in October.

Children five years or older and their parent or guardian can join grief specialists from Agrace on October 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Baraboo Civic Center, 124 2nd Street in Baraboo.

Habitat and Agrace HospiceCare Collaborate to Help Local Resident during Heat Wave

Hospice patient Julianne Dick was given some relief during one of the hottest weeks of summer when representatives from Agrace HospiceCare and Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin River Area arrived at her Lyndon Station home with a brand-new air conditioner July 23. This gift of safety and comfort was made possible by a donation to Habitat from Walmart of Baraboo and a Dodgeville, Wis.-area Farm and Fleet.

Agrace Thrift Store to Celebrate Achieving Dementia-friendly Status at August 16 Ceremony

Thanks to special staff training, the Agrace Thrift Store in Janesville is being recognized as “dementia-friendly” by the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Rock County.

On Friday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m., Agrace Thrift Store staff, volunteers and supporters will host a ceremony celebrating the store’s new “dementia-friendly” status. The community is invited to dress in purple for dementia awareness and visit the store at 2043 Humes Rd, Janesville, for a ribbon-cutting presentation.

Nate Rogers was frustrated while looking for a place where he could relocate his small business from his dad’s garage more than 10 years ago.

“I had a tough time finding a spot. There was nothing really available when I started my business, and anything that was available was a huge payment that I just couldn’t afford,” Rogers said.

Agrace Adds Four Members to Foundation Board

Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care has appointed Greg Dombrowski, Derrick Smith, Mary Bonte Spath and Sheila Boothby Stevens to its Foundation board. Agrace is Wisconsin’s largest nonprofit community hospice and palliative care agency, providing end-of-life care and related services to people in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. The Agrace Foundation Board guides fundraising, helping to meet the current and future needs of the organization.

End-of-Life Care Advocate Dr. Ira Byock to Speak in Madison April 30

Dr. Ira Byock, a leading palliative care physician, author and public advocate for improving care through the end of life, will present “What Mortality Can Teach Us About Living,” in Madison on April 30. His visit co-hosted by Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care and University of Wisconsin Palliative Care.

Byock is author of “The Best Care Possible,” “The Four Things That Matter Most,” and “Dying Well.” The free presentation is open to the public and will take place Tuesday, April 30, at 6:15 p.m., at the Madison Public Library – Sequoya Branch, 4340 Tokay Blvd., Madison.

Hospice Patient Sees Packer Game in Wish Come True

Francis Thompson, an 86-year-old Prairie du Sac resident and life-long Green Bay Packers fan, had a wish come true October 15 when he was able to attend the Packers’ Monday Night Football game at Lambeau Field. Francis’ wish was made possible by his Baraboo-based nurse, CNA and social worker from Agrace HospiceCare.

“After a lifetime of watching the Packers play, this was Francis’ first time seeing them play in person,” said Tina Hohn, Thompson’s nurse case manager with Agrace. “Francis talks about it every time I see him. He says, ‘I still can’t believe I made it to the game!’”
