Agrace HospiceCare opens memory care suites

People afflicted with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions affecting memory can experience an array of harrowing symptoms.

Agrace HospiceCare memory care unit director Sue Husom told the Star one of those symptoms can include not recognizing your own reflection in the mirror. In addition, you might find it increasingly difficult to communicate, plan out your day and remember the names of loved ones — or where you live. And along with the cognitive changes comes the psychological: anxiety, depression, paranoia, agitation and hallucinations.

But that’s where Agrace’s 12 new hospice memory care suites come in. The unit opened in mid-December at the Fitchburg campus, located at 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy.

She’s spent years giving back to Agrace Hospice patients who need it most.

A salon was donated to Agrace by Cost Cutters 12 years ago and for the past six years Beth has been volunteering there every week.

Agrace Opens New Hospice Memory Care Suites

Agrace HospiceCare is converting 12 of the 50 beds at its inpatient center in Fitchburg to a secure unit for people with dementia to meet a growing need for the service.

Some 22% of Agrace patients had a primary diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia last year, up from 10% in 2010, Agrace spokeswoman Liz Kopling said.

“This is becoming more and more crucial as the need for this type of care grows,” Kopling said.

New Thrift Home Store to Benefit Agrace’s Community Grief Support Services

People who love bargain-shopping for furniture, home goods and décor will soon have a new destination—the Agrace Thrift Home Store.

A Grand Opening celebration is planned for Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1946 S. Stoughton Road, Madison. Proceeds from this store are directed specifically to help fund Agrace’s grief support programming for the community, including the Agrace Grief Support Center in Fitchburg.

Agrace HospiceCare Completes $15 Million Charitable Care Endowment Campaign

More than 1,750 donors have assisted Agrace with the completion of their $15 million endowment campaign to help ensure that all local hospice patients can receive the compassionate end-of-life care they need, even if they cannot pay.

Agrace, Wisconsin’s largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization, announced today that it has met its goal of raising $15 million for its Care for All Endowment Campaign, which began in 2014. The endowment will provide financial support for Agrace patients who demonstrate needing help paying for their hospice care.

Not only was Dean blessed with such wonderful care in his final month, but the support and care given to the family will never be forgotten.
