MADISON (WKOW) — Badgers receiver Jack Dunn and his brother, Bob, a graduate assistant on the coaching staff, have announced a campaign called ‘Team 2020’ to provide meals to needy families.
The meals are prepared by The Edgewater Hotel and distributed through Agrace HospiceCare.
“We see on a regular basis, especially people in the homes struggling to be able to access food right now,” Marcia Whittington of Agrace explains.
When the Dunns and The Edgewater heard of this struggle, they stepped in. Jack and Bob began a fundraising campaign.
“It just seemed like an opportunity that me and my brother could kind of leverage the support we have through Wisconsin football to create an awareness of what was happening,” says the senior receiver.
Jack recently saw the need firsthand. He and his teammates delivered a meal to Kathy and Ronald Garton, who have been Badgers’ season ticket holders for decades.
“I never in a million years thought that this would happen,” smiles Kathy.
On the field, Jack has received plenty of praise for his work through the years. In this case, he says the work is the reward.
“The heroes in this situation are the people at The Edgewater, the people at Agrace, who are out here every single day to support these people. My brother and I are usually just two idiots sitting behind a computer trying to drum up support for the real heroes here.”
The brothers have started a GoFundMe with the hopes of raising $100,000 to provide meals to needy families in the area. As of Friday evening, they had raised more than
$31,000.
