Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care has been named recipient of the 2018 YWCA Rock County Dorothy Height Award for Diversity in the Workplace. The award was presented to Agrace’s Tami Kellerman, Brenda Gonzalez and past Foundation Board Member Linda Krohn at the fourth Annual YWCA Rock County Racial Justice Conference “Building Bridges to Eliminate Racism” on November 8.
The Dorothy Height Award for Diversity in the Workplace recognizes a business within Rock County that demonstrates that it recognizes the strengths provided by racial diversity. The business must also exhibit a sustained commitment in the pursuit of cultural diversity, inclusion and retention in the workplace.
Agrace was nominated for its broad commitment to diversity and inclusion, including innovative interpreter services, Advancing Inclusion and Equity Committee, recruitment and retention practices, and partnerships with groups that serve the local Latinx, African-American and Hmong communities.
“Agrace is honored to receive this award. We’ve worked very hard to create a culture where everyone is welcome. We believe equity and inclusion are essential in the workplace, so we can mirror the community we serve,” said Marcia Whittington, chief development officer for Agrace. “We thank Linda Krohn for this nomination and the Award Committee for recognizing our efforts.”
Dorothy Height (1912 - 2010), for whom is the award is named, was a civil rights and women’s rights activist who focused on improving the circumstances of and opportunities for African-American women. She became one of the leading figures of the Civil Rights Movement. The numerous honors bestowed upon her include the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1994) and the Congressional Gold Medal (2004).
Past winners of the Dorothy Height Award are Community Action, Beloit; the School District of Beloit; and Blackhawk Bank.
